About The Buttercup Bakery and Me

Welcome to The Buttercup Bakery!

Thank you for stopping by The Buttercup Bakery!

The Buttercup Bakery is a home-run business based in Bournemouth, where I make fresh-baked, delicious food that just happens to be gluten free. On this blog you'll find all the nitty gritty details of my baking experiments, successes and failures, and reviews of some of the latest gluten free products to hit the shelves. You'll also find all the info you could ever want about The Buttercup Bakery and the products I sell. Looking for something naughty but exciting for a treat? You've come to the right place! Leave your waistline woes at the door, grab a cup of tea and join me for a chat.

When my Dad was diagnosed with coeliac disease in 1998, his food options were limited to postage-stamp-sized bread that felt permanently stale and almost nothing more exciting than that. When I began GCSE Home Economics, a couple of years on, did my coursework on 'The Gluten Free Diet'. Just three short years later, in 2003, I was also diagnosed. Standards had improved a little, but nothing could describe the longing I felt for a slice of cheesecake!

After ten years working in an office job that really made me miserable, I was suffering a chronic illness and decided to take a career break. During that time, one of my colleagues - a lady whom I thought an awful lot of - passed away suddenly. Between my illness and this terrible shock, I realised I didn't want to spend any more time in a job I was so unhappy in. I handed in my notice and that was the end of that!

I spent the next few months planning and furiously trying out new recipes. In January 2014, I got my hygiene certificate, registered with Bournemouth Council and got started trying to make a business that offers exciting baked goods, made without additives or preservatives, for a good price.

Sound good? Check out my Products page for a list of the treats on offer and prices.

I also now have a website with more information! www.buttercupbakerybournemouth.co.uk.
